2019 Watch List
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's Andrew Poenitsch was named Friday to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the most outstanding center in college football.
Poenitsch, a fifth-year senior from Waukesha, Wisconsin, earned a spot on the list for the second year in a row. He is a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.
The versatile Poenitsch will return to his primary role making the line calls and snaps for the Cardinals again this fall. He transitioned to left tackle for seven games last season in place of the injured Kaleb Slaven.
Now in its 20th year, the Rimington Trophy is named after former Nebraska center Dave Rimington, a first-team All-America center in 1981 and 1982. Since its inception, the award has raised more than $4.2 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.
Poenitsch is the second Ball State player to find his name on a preseason watch list this week. Fellow fifth-year senior Riley Miller was named a candidate for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the nation's top receiver, just one day earlier.
Ball State begins fall camp Aug. 1. The Cardinals will open the season Saturday, Aug. 31 with the Ruoff Kickoff Classic against Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
