Academic Awards For 38-Win Ball State Baseball
June 18, 2019 | Baseball
Five players named academic All-MAC after seven made All-MAC during season
Five Ball State players were named Academic All-MAC after a year that saw the Cardinals post a 38-19 record. William Baker, Nick Floyd, Chayce McDermott, Kyle Nicolas and Chase Sebby were each honored as academic all-league picks, which required a 3.20 GPA, participation in 50% of contests and a year of enrollment at the school.
Of Ball State's seven All-MAC players on the diamond, Baker, Floyd and Sebby were honored both on the field and for classwork. Baker led BSU with a .324 batting average and hit .353 in conference games while starting at three different positions.
Floyd hit the league award hat trick: he was a first-team honoree after going 8-0 with a 1.92 ERA and five saves, was on the MAC Championships All-Tournament Team and is now an academic all-conference pick. Recently, Floyd signed to pitch for the Gary South Shore Railcats in the Northern League.
Sebby was MAC Defensive Player of the Year and a second team all-conference honoree at catcher. Nicolas was among the league's strikeout leaders, as was McDermott, a successful weekend starter for much of the season.
