May 29, 2019 | General, Men's Golf, Track & Field
CLEVELAND -- Ball State high jumper Regan Lewis and golfer Timothy Wiseman were presented Wednesday with the MAC Medal of Excellence at the league's annual Honors Dinner Ceremony. The award is given annually to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each of the conference's 12 member institutions.
"The Medal of Excellence Award is a reinforcement of the core values that we as a conference and each of our member institutions all possess with excellence in academics, athletics, leadership and service," MAC Commissioner Jon A. Steinbrecher said. "We congratulate all of our Medal of Excellence Award winners."
Lewis, a four-time MAC champion and 2018 All-American in the high jump, owns a 3.798 GPA and will earn her nursing degree this summer. The Greenfield, Indiana, native won two indoor and two outdoor league titles in her career, earning a podium spot a total of six times at MAC Championship meets. She placed 10th at the 2018 NCAA Championships. A four-time MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete selection, Lewis was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team just this week.
Wiseman, an All-MAC selection this year, recently graduated with a 3.67 GPA and a degree in finance. The Corydon, Indiana, native was voted the Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsmanship Award winner by his peers at this year's MAC Championships. A U.S. Open qualifier last summer, Wiseman finished with a 74.72 career scoring average and provided a counting score in 89 percent of his rounds. The 2018 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar will soon be a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree.
To be honored with the Medal of Excellence Award, student-athletes must have participated at the varsity level in a conference-sponsored sport, shown evidence of academic success with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, and exhibited athletics excellence, leadership and service. Selection of the recipients was made by each MAC institution.
