Cardinals finish 38-19; 2nd in MAC regular season and league tournament
AVON, Ohio - A year that featured school and league records, a 23-1 record at home and national rankings and awards came to an end in the MAC Baseball Championship final Saturday night, as Central Michigan outlasted Ball State 6-0.Â
Central Michigan (46-12) will represent the Mid-American Conference in the NCAA Tournament.
CMU got an early 2-run homer from tourney MVP Griffin Lockwood-Powell and a pitching gem Jordan Patty and finished a 3-0 weekend to earn its first NCAA berth since 1995.
Ball State finishes the season 39-19, runner-up in both the conference standings and conference tournament. The Cardinals, who won an exciting 11-inning game earlier on Saturday, got a championship-quality start from Mike Pachmayer, who pitched 5.2 innings and kept BSU in the game. The score was 3-0 in the 6th inning when Central Michigan added a few insurance runs to put the game out of reach.
"It was a memorable season, it's not often you go 20-5 in the league and not win a championship," head coach Rich Maloney said. "But you have to tip your hat to Central, they had a great season. I'm proud of our guys because we are a true team. We got contributions from so many players. As a coach, when your players become a team, that's everything we talk about in our program. We didn't get the ultimate prize, but it was an outstanding season by every measure."

2019 MAC All-Tournament Team

Tanner Piechnick - Ohio
