Ball State now 5-2 in MAC play with 4 home games this week
MT. PLEASANT, MICH. - Big innings, timely hitting and a gem from Chayce McDermott led Ball State baseball to a 10-0 win at Central Michigan on Sunday.
McDermott, a redshirt freshman, improved to 4-0 on the year by pitching 6 shutout innings with just 4 hits and 2 walks allowed. He struck out 8 and left the game with Ball State leading 9-0.
Ball State (20-11, 5-2) cashed in on CMU's uncharacteristic mistakes. Chippewa pitchers walked 8 and hit a batter, and 5 of those 9 giveaways resulted in Ball State runs. A pair of walks set up a 2-run single by John Ricotta in the 3rd, the key hit that gave the Cards an early 4-0 lead.
Ball State broke the game open in the top of the 5th, highlighted by run-scoring singles by Aaron Simpson, Tim Blankenbeger and William Baker.
