April 05, 2019 | Men's Golf
Cardinals tied for 13th as a team with two rounds left outside Nashville
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Timothy Wiseman's opening 4-under par 67 was better than all but five golfers Friday in a strong field at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
The senior from Corydon, Indiana, carded six birdies on the way to the best round of his collegiate career. Of the 12 top-100 players competing this weekend, he leads nine of them.
Ball State's score of 290 (+6) put the team in a tie for 13th place. The Cardinals' score was only six higher than fourth-ranked Vanderbilt, which sits in 10th place and will have to rally over the next two days to defend its title.
No. 25 Tennessee leads the 17-team field by six shots after blistering the South Course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club for a round of 269 (-15). The Vols' Cullan Brown and Kentucky's Nolan Ray both shot 64 to sit atop the individual leaderboard.
Ball State also counted a 73 from Jack Cunningham, a 74 from Joey Ranieri and a 76 from Yianni Kostouros in Friday's round.
The action continues with the second round Saturday. The Cardinals' tee times begin at 8:25 a.m. CT (9:25 ET). Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
