Cardinals Put Skills on Display for Pro Football Scouts
April 03, 2019 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – It's always an exciting and nervous day when professional football scouts from all over the country make a visit to the Ball State football complex to take a look at former Cardinals looking to continue their playing career in the professional ranks.
This year, four Ball State Cardinals went through the Pro Day gauntlet Wednesday morning at Scheumann Stadium – kicker Morgan Hagee, wide receiver Corey Lacanaria, defensive back Josh Miller and wide receiver Devin Reece.
The usual Pro Day itinerary includes the 225-pound bench press, broad jump, vertical jump, 40-yard dash, shuttle run, three-cone drill and position specific drills. Lacanaria and Reece were full participants and finished the day by running several wide receiver routes. Hagee showed off his right foot with several field goal attempts and four kick-offs. An injury limited Miller to only participate in the bench press.
Eleven professional scouts were on hand to take notes on the Ball State players plus eight players from other area colleges – Butler, UIndy, Marian and Saint Francis.
All of these players will hope to hear their name called during the upcoming NFL Draft, which takes place April 25-27 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Two Ball State players who participated in last year's Pro Day are currently a part of NFL teams – wide receiver Jordan Williams-Lambert and defensive end Anthony Winbush. Williams-Lambert signed with the Chicago Bears after being honored as the 2018 CFL West Division Most Outstanding Rookie with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Winbush was Ball State's team MVP in 2017 thanks to ranking fourth in the nation in sacks (11.5). He went on to spend time on the Colts' practice squad last year.
The current Cardinals are in the middle of their spring practice season. The annual Spring Football Game is slated for Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. For the complete spring practice schedule, click here.
