Track & Field Picks Up Another MAC Auto Qualifier Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Sophomore sprinter MaQuila Norman became the eighth different Ball State track & field student-athlete to secure a Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying mark Saturday with her career-fast time of 55.26 in the 400m at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational hosted by Louisville.
Norman's performance was one of several highlights on the day, as the Cardinals finished their second and final day at UofL's Cardinal Park with 15 top 10 finishes.
Junior Bryeana Byrdsong had perhaps the biggest day for Ball State, improving her MAC auto marks in both the 100m and 200m, while anchoring the 4x400m relay which placed second at 3:50.32.
In her first individual race of the day, Byrdsong took fifth in the 100m with a time of 11.70, .01 shy of her career-best effort and .06 better than her previous season-best time. She followed with a fourth-place time of 23.85 in the 200m dash, which was .01 better than her previous season-best.
Redshirt sophomore Jasmine Harris added another strong run in the finals of the 100m hurdles, shaving .08 off her MAC auto time from Friday to place fifth at 13.83. In addition, sophomore Anasja Troutman took sixth in the finals of the 100m hurdles at 14.11, her sixth-consecutive career-best in the event this season.
The Cardinals also receive fourth-place finishes from sophomore Emmalyne Tarsa in the 3000m steeplechase (10:52.42) and freshman Karleigh Conner in the 800m (2:12.91) on the track.
In the field events, sophomore Princess Carter improved upon her fourth-best individual effort in program history in the discus, taking fourth in the open section of the event at 46.18m.
Rounding out Ball State's top performers at the meet was senior Regan Lewis who tied for third in the seeded section of the high jump at a season-best 1.71m.
Next up for the Ball State track & field program, the 2019 MAC Championships which will be held at University Track in the Briner Sports Complex May 9-11.
