Women’s Golf Looking to Put It All Together at MAC Championships
April 18, 2019 | Women's Golf
Cardinals have improved upon their previous finish in each tournament this spring
UPDATE: Friday's first-round tee times have been moved back because of the forecast for morning rain. Ball State's tee times are now scheduled to begin at 11:50 a.m.
The young Ball State women's golf team has seen glimpses of its potential over the past month.
Rounds in the 60's from Hadley Moritz and Manon Tounalom at the Spring Break Shootout. An even-par final two rounds for Liz Kim at the Colonel Classic. Five golfers in the top 20 on the way to a runner-up finish at last week's Hoya Invitational.
Now the senior-less Cardinals are looking to put it all together at the MAC Championships on a course they know well.
The action begins Friday in Noblesville at Purgatory Golf Club, less than an hour's drive from campus. Ball State's tee times start at 11:50 a.m.
It's a venue that creates positive vibes for the likes of Ball State freshmen Morgan Lewis and Hadley Moritz, both of whom played it as junior golfers growing up in the area. And it's a course the Cardinals, like most other teams in the league, saw earlier this season at The Fall Preview.
Emily Knouff had her best tournament of the year that week in October, tying for 15th in a field of 74 golfers. Tounalom tied for 15th, as well, and enters her third appearance at the league championships.
The Cardinals and every other team in the field will be chasing perennial favorite Kent State. The Golden Flashes have won all 20 previous MAC Championships and enter this week's tournament as the 10th-ranked team in the country.
Ball State finished sixth last year at Naperville Country Club in Illinois. Tounalom, Kim and Knouff all return from that week's lineup.
