Cardinals boast three golfers with scoring averages better than 73
The Ball State men's golf team heads to Columbus, Ohio, for its final tuneup for the MAC Championships with the 48th playing of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
The Cardinals are part of a 14-team field on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University Golf Club, one of the top collegiate venues in the country. The teams will play 36 holes Friday and the final round Saturday. Friday's action begins with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
The field is heavy on regional flavor with six teams from the Big Ten and five from the MAC, but the highest-ranked team competing is No. 40 Florida.
Ball State enters the event with its top three golfers all boasting scoring averages better than 73 -- Keegan Bronnenberg (72.64), Timothy Wiseman (72.86) and Joey Ranieri (72.95). Ranieri has finished top 25 in four of his past five starts, including the past three in a row.
That trio is joined in the lineup this week by CJ Jones and Tyler Green. Jones fired a pair of 74's last week at the Boilermaker Invitational, while Green makes his return to the lineup for the first time since the spring stroke play opener at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate.
Ball State will see MAC teams Kent State, Northern Illinois and Miami for the second straight tournament. The Cardinals topped all of them last week at Purdue. Toledo is also in the field this time around.
All those teams are building toward next week's MAC Championships, hosted by Kent State at Club Walden in Aurora, Ohio.
