Softball’s Kendall Fields Named MAC Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - After blasting three home runs and tallying 10 RBIs in last weekend's series win at Western Michigan, Ball State softball sophomore designated player Kendall Fields has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week.
"Kendall did a great job hunting her pitch and came up big when the team needed her," head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett said. "She is a tremendously hard worker and a good teammate. It's great to see those things pay off."
Fields, a first-time career MAC Player of the Week honoree, finished the three-game series with four RBI hits and a 1.083 slugging percentage. Her 10 RBIs led all players on the weekend, as did her three home runs.
Fields first home run of the weekend helped guide the Cardinals to a 7-5 victory in Friday's series opener, as she blasted her first career grand slam in the top of the first inning to give Ball State a 4-0 edge.
In Saturday's first game, Fields drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single to right. Then, with the Cardinals trailing 9-6 in the seventh, Fields came up with two runners on base and two outs. She would work the count full before blasting her second home run of the series, a three-run blast to force extra innings.
In the series finale Saturday evening, Fields added a two-run blast with two outs in the third inning to drive in what stood to be the game-winning run in the 5-3 victory.
The Ball State softball team returns to action Friday, when it opens senior weekend with a scheduled 3 p.m. first pitch versus Toledo. The Cardinals and Rockets are also scheduled to play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, with Ball State honoring its four-member senior class following the second game.
