Cardinals Score In The 8th To Beat Georgetown
March 08, 2019 | Baseball
Victory was the 800th of Rich Maloney's career
Friday's victory was No. 800 for head coach Rich Maloney, who becomes the 27th active NCAA Division I coach with 800 victories. Maloney now has 458 career wins in his 14th season at Ball State.
"What it means is I've had the privilege to work with so many great players and coaches. It's been a true team effort and two great institutions," Maloney said. "One thing I'm proud of is our consistency. Year in and year out, we've been a contender. When you hit a milestone like this, you reflect on everything you've learned and the relationships you've made in the game. I have a lot to be thankful for."

With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th, Chase Sebby pulled a one-out double down the left-field line. With two outs, Ross Messina tripled to drive in the go-ahead run. Messina scored on Murphy's single to make it 6-4 and Nick Floyd finished the game to pick up his second win of the year.
Ball State led 4-0 in the middle of the game behind Drey Jameson, who threw 7.2 innings and struck out 10. Floyd earned the last four outs of the day.
"Drey was outstanding in front of a lot of scouts," Maloney said. "Give Georgetown a lot of credit, they really battled and scrapped against him. And Nick, after being out with an injury for two weeks, was marvelous the way he responded after the game was tied."
William Baker enjoyed his best game of the 2019 season, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs. Aaron Simpson had two hits and two RBIs.
"William was huge for us," Maloney said. "Sometimes starting slow is part of it. But the way he's starting to hit is very encouraging."
Ball State will play twice Saturday, March 9 in Florida. BSU will play St. Joseph's in the morning followed immediately by a game with Mt. St. Mary's. Fans can follow online, on Twitter at @BallStateBB or listen to the audio broadcast. Saturday's first pitch is 10 a.m.
