UCF scores 3 runs in 13th to sneak past BSU
The Cardinals led for much of the evening, taking a 4-0 lead when UCF scored four runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game. Ball State and UCF traded zeroes before each team scored twice in the 12th.Â
In the 13th, Ball State took the lead back when Noah Powell singled and scored, followed by an RBI groundout from Andre Orselli that drove in Aaron Simpson. Ball State led 8-6 and needed three outs to win.
The first two UCF batters in the 13th walked and soon the Knights tied the game 8-8. A bases-loaded single by Pedro Castellano scored the winning run after 5 hours, 6 minutes of action.
Mack Murphy started in left field and had three hits, while Noah Navarro went 2-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs. Orselli, a freshman pitcher, also had two RBIs. John Baker started and breezed through 3.0 innings, allowing just two baserunners and striking out five as Ball State took control early in the game. Kyle Nicolas threw two shutout innings and Lukas Jaksich pitched 3.0 high-leverage innings.
