Rodriguez To Run 5000m at Raleigh Relays

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Last weekend, the Ball State outdoor track & field team turned in five Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational.
This weekend, while most of the team is back in Muncie focusing on training, one Cardinal will get her chance to join the group as junior Maritza Rodriguez takes on the 5,000m at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.
Rodriguez, who is slated to run in the 9:42 a.m. third second of the 5,000m Friday, finished the cross country season as Ball State's top runner at the MAC Championships. She went on earn her first career points at the MAC Indoor Championships, placing sixth in the 3,000m run.
So far this outdoor season, she had completed twice in the 3,000m, finishing with an outdoor career-best time of 9:50.24 in last weekend's race at Vanderbilt.
Friday's run will mark Rodriguez's first in the outdoor 5,000m since she placed 17th at least season's MAC Championships. She owns a career-best outdoor 5,000m time of 17:15.53 set in a second-place finish at least season's Hilldale "GINA" Relays.
