Women's Basketball Freshman Continues Road Back
March 21, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Anna Clephane's nearly four months out from ACL surgery
One month into her college career Anna Clephane seemed poised to snatch a spot on the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team this winter. The Northern Kentucky native scored nine points against Duke, dished four assists vs. Fordham and the cherry on top was a 22-point outing against her hometown Cincinnati Bearcats inside Worthen Arena.
And then, just like that, it was gone.
A week after her breakout against UC, with a minute-limited four foul performance at Butler in the immediate rearview, Clephane was primed to get back on track back home against an SEC team in Vanderbilt. But 11 minutes in, the freshman collapsed on a drive to the bucket, tearing her ACL and ending her season.
For Clephane, the next sixth months now look remarkably different than they did just a few weeks ago. In a behind-the-scenes series, Ball State All-Access is following Anna each step of her journey back to the court. From the injury itself, to her surgery, the first days of rehab and beyond, follow along as Clephane works to reclaim everything for which she'd worked so hard to this point.
Chapter 1: The Injury
Chapter 2: A New ACL
Chapter 3: Road to Recovery Begins
Chapter 4: Rehab Repetitions
Chapter 5: Getting in the Gym
Chapter 6: Walking Again
Clephane was one of six freshman on this season's roster that had only one senior. That means almost the entire team returns next year when the Cardinals jump center inside Worthen Arena in November with more experience and continued high expectations.
