MUNCIE, Ind. - Audrey Berger clinched match point this afternoon for the Cardinals at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, giving Ball State a 5-2 win over Eastern Illinois.
With the win, Ball State extended its win streak to three and improved its overall record to 4-1 on the season while Eastern Illinois drops to 3-3.
The Cardinals took the doubles point from the Panthers in quick fashion as the No. 2 twosome of Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington took a 6-2 decision over EIU's duo, Shelby Anderson and Karla Contreras. Shortly after, Peyton Gollhofer alongside partner Isabelle Dohanics finished their match at the No. 3 spot for the winning point.
In singles action, Herrington only gave up one game in both sets, winning 6-1, 6-0 to put Ball State up 2-0 over the Panthers. Victoria Sec followed suit with a straight set victory against Shelby Anderson at position five.
With the Cardinals up 3-0 over the Panthers, Ball State only needed one more point for the win. Berger took down Srishti Slaria on court two, 6-3, 6-1, to secure the victory for the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring play at Saint Francis (Feb. 15) at 7 p.m. and against Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. at 4 p.m.
