Women’s Golf Finishes Middle of the Pack at Rio Verde

Manon Tounalom closes with 74 to lead Cardinals in final round
RIO VERDE, ARIZ. -- Behind a round of 74 from Manon Tounalom, the Ball State women's golf team stood pat to finish the Rio Verde Invitational in a tie for 10th place out of 18 teams.
Hadley Moritz carded a 75 on Sunday, while the Cardinals also counted rounds of 80 from Liz Kim and Morgan Lewis en route to a team score of 309. BSU finished with a 36-hole total of 615 (+47) in the weather-shortened event on the White Wing Course at Rio Verde Country Club.
Xavier, which started the final day two shots back, closed with a round of 292 on the way to a three-shot victory with a total of 591 (+23). Seton Hall (+26) was second and Boise State (+30) third. Overnight leader Arkansas State dropped to fifth.
Western Michigan's Claire Hernandez maintained her spot atop the individual leaderboard to claim medalist honors by two strokes over Bradley's Frankie Saban. Hernandez was even par over her two rounds.
Tounalom led Ball State with a tie for 26th place in the field of 101 golfers at 9 over par. Moritz tied for 39th. Kim and Lewis, who led the Cardinals with rounds of 75 on the opening day, dropped to 48th on the final leaderboard.
This week marked Ball State's first stroke play event of the spring season. The Cardinals will return to action March 11-12 at the Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Florida. The tournament will be contested at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club, the same place the Cardinals recently hosted the Ball State Sunshine Invitational match play event.
