Soccer Beats Eastern Kentucky, 2-0, in Spring Opener

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Ball State soccer team started its spring schedule with a win as it defeated Eastern Kentucky, 2-0, in a rematch from the 2018 regular season on Saturday.

"I was very pleased with the way we performed today," said head coach Craig Roberts. "We played together as a team which is exactly what I was hoping for. It was nice to get a win, but also to see some of the girls get their first starts or experience playing on this team."

Sammi Corcoran scored Ball State's first goal from the top of the penalty area, and she was followed by Kennedy Metzger who put a ball in the back of the net after beating her defender one-on-one and breaking away from the defense. Alex DeRuvo recorded a shutout in her first start at goalkeeper for the Cardinals.

Ball State will wait a month for its next spring match as it faces Grace College on March 23 at Briner Sports Complex.
