Fan Friendly Home Schedule Revealed for the 2019 Football Season
February 20, 2019 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Get out your calendars. The Ball State football team's 2019 schedule is set as the Mid-American Conference announced the league line-up today.
The Cardinals have six home games plus a designated home game against Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium. Six of the seven home dates this fall are on Saturdays. Family Weekend will take place on Saturday Sept. 14 when Ball State welcomes Florida Atlantic to Scheumann Stadium. Homecoming is slated for Saturday, Oct. 19 against Toledo.
This year's season opener will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Hoosiers. The two teams played the first NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) game in Lucas Oil Stadium back in 2011. Ball State came out on top that day, 27-20, behind quarterback Keith Wenning's three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing).
Following the IU game, Ball State will play two straight contests at Scheumann Stadium. Fordham, out of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level, will make its first visit to Scheumann Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7. Florida Atlantic will also make its first ever trip to Muncie the following week on Sept. 14. In the only other meeting between the two teams in 2016, the Cardinals pulled out a thrilling, last-minute 31-27 victory over FAU in Boca Raton, Florida.
Ball State concludes non-conference action with a road trip to NC State on Sept. 21.
League play begins on Saturday, Oct. 5 when the Cardinals travel to defending league champion Northern Illinois. Ball State then heads north to Eastern Michigan on Oct. 12 before returning to the Scheu for Homecoming on Oct. 19 against Toledo.
Ohio will make just its third trip to Muncie since 2000 on Saturday, Oct. 26. Ball State tallied a convincing 52-27 victory over Ohio the last time the two teams played at Scheumann Stadium in 2012. Ball State's lone midweek #MACtion tilt is on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Western Michigan. That game will be televised on ESPN2, ESPNU or CBS Sports Network.
Another Saturday home game awaits Ball State on Nov. 16 when Central Michigan visits town. The all-time series is knotted at 25-25-1 after the Cardinals rallied for a 24-23 win at CMU last fall thanks to a Morgan Hagee 36-yard field goal in the final minute of action. Ball State will then make its first trek to Kent State in seven years on Saturday, Nov 23.
For the fourth straight year, Ball State will wrap up the regular season against Miami (Ohio) in the battle for the Red Bird Rivalry Trophy. This year's game is currently set for Friday, Nov. 29 at Scheumann Stadium. However, there is a possibility that the Miami (Ohio) contest will get flexed to Saturday, Nov. 30. The official game date is expected to be finalized before June 1.
The 23rd Marathon MAC Football Championship game will take place at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 7. This will mark the 16th MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
An updated version of the 2019 MAC football schedule will be released in June with kick times and television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during November. All other game kick times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
The 2019 season marks the 150th year of college football. Ball State and the rest of the Mid-American Conference will be celebrating this anniversary throughout the coming months. Keep an eye out for the beginning of Ball State's campaign during the spring practice season. Ball State returns to the football field for spring practice on Thursday, March 14. The annual Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m.
Fans may place a season ticket deposit by calling 888-BSU-TICKET. Season ticket holders will receive the first opportunity at the best seating locations for the Ball State-Indiana game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
