Track & Field Wins Pair of Events at Tune-Up

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Competing at home for the first time this season, the Ball State track & field team compiled two event wins, 10 career-best performances and 16 top five finishes to place second of four teams in Friday's Ball State Tune-Up.
Junior Jasmine Harris continued her hot streak, tallying an event win in the 60m hurdles (8.97) and placing fourth in the 60m (7.82). Harris had an even stronger run in the 60m hurdle prelims, clocking in at 8.66.
The Cardinals other event win came from sophomore MaQuila Norman, who took top billing in the 400m dash at 58.30.
Redshirt freshman Michelle Lehmann remained consistent with a pair of second-place finishes, clocking in at 7.80 in the 60m and turning in a mark of 5.45m in the long jump.
Also scoring a runner-up finish in the sprints was sophomore Ivy McKee who clocked a career-best 200m of 25.22 to take second.
In the mid-distance events, sophomore Emmalyne Tarsa turned in a personal-best of 5:11.18 to take second in the mile, while junior Peyton Kneadler led the Cardinals to the line in the 800m run with a third-place effort of 2:23.82.
In the field events, junior Kelsey Walters led the Ball State in the shot put with a second-place mark of 14.00m, while sophomore Megan Graves was BSU's top finisher in the weight throw with a third-place and career-best effort of 16.48m.
Rounding out Ball State's top performances, was sophomore Hailley Peters taking second in the high jump at 1.60m.
Western Michigan won the team event with 61.5 points, followed by Ball State (31), Wright State (19) and Marion (0.5).
Next up for the Ball State track and field team, the 2019 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Kent State (Feb. 23-24).
"I'm just excited we've got really, really good momentum rolling into next week at the MAC Championships, head coach Brian Etelman said. "Now we just need to keep people healthy, keep them focused and just get ready to get after it."
