Junior guard leads BSU at 14.5 points per game entering conference play

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State junior guard Ishmael El-Amin, continuing his breakout season, was named the MAC West Division Player of the Week.

El-Amin averaged 16.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals over the Cardinals' final two games at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota, product scored a game-high 18 points in BSU's Christmas Day win over Portland. He scored 15 of them in the second half to help the Cardinals break open a tie game for a double-digit victory.

El-Amin also had 14 points two days earlier against UTEP. He leads BSU in scoring for the season at 14.5 points per game.

Ball State closed out non-conference action at 7-6. The Cardinals will open MAC play with back-to-back home games, hosting West Division preseason favorite Toledo on Friday, Jan. 3 and defending league champion Buffalo on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
