Nine Cardinals Named MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes Following Fall Season
December 20, 2019 | General
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its list of Distinguished Scholar Athletes from its seven fall sports Friday morning. The Distinguished Scholar Athlete is a sixth-year award that honors the 'best of the best' student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics.
Nine Ball State students made the cut, which was one shy of Akron's league-high 10 recipients. Highlighting this distinct group was women's volleyball senior Amber Seaman. The Cardinals setter found her name on this list for the third time in her career. Football senior wide receiver Riley Miller earned the award for a second straight year.
Also receiving this honor from the MAC were Curtis Blackwell (football), Sierra Jefferson (field hockey), Sam Kambol (soccer), Danny Pinter (football), Emily Simmons (soccer), Tristin Stuteville (soccer) and Jacob White (football).
Ball State led the MAC with three soccer and four football honorees.
The selection for the Distinguished Scholar Athlete included all student-athletes who were recognized as both All-MAC and Academic All-MAC from their respective sport, along with maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA. Previously, a voting process among the MAC Faculty Athletic Representatives determined the selection of the Distinguished Scholar Athletes. MAC membership voted for the change in recognizing the Distinguished Scholar Athletes during the conference spring meetings in June of 2019.
Later this winter and spring, the MAC will announce the Distinguished Scholar Athletes from the remaining 16 winter and spring sports sponsored by the conference.
