Szews Named Preseason All-MIVA, Cardinals Picked to Finish Sixth
December 16, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State senior Matt Szews has been named to the Preseason All-MIVA Team while the Cardinals were selected to finish sixth in the preseason poll, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Lewis was selected by the coaches to win the conference with 63 points and seven of the eight first-place votes. Purdue Fort Wayne and Loyola rounded out the top three and Purdue Fort Wayne's Pelegrin Vargas was selected as the preseason Player of the Year.
Ball State finished the 2019 campaign with a .500 record at 15-15. The Cardinals will look to improve upon that mark starting Jan. 10 when they host Belmont Abbey in the season opener as part of the Don Shondell Active Ankle Challenge.
Szews was a First Team All-MIVA performer a season ago after leading Ball State with 383 kills and 39 service aces. The Wisconsin native also chipped in 75 blocks and 187 digs on the year.
