Opening Tip:
Saturday's game marks the 25th all-time meeting between Ball State and Butler in women's basketball. Last year, the Bulldogs and the Cardinals played in Hinkle Field House with Butler earning a 64-47 victory. Butler leads the all-time series, 15-10.
The Cardinals have won three of the last four meetings between the two state rival schools including the last time Butler played in Worthen Arena. Ball State defeated Butler in Muncie by a score of 87-75 on Nov. 29, 2017.
Butler is the second Big East Conference team the Cardinals will have faced this week. Ball State is coming off of a 70-49 win over Xavier Wednesday in Worthen Arena. Junior forward Oshlynn Brown led the Cardinals charge with her 19th career double-double after scoring 19 points and adding 12 rebounds.
Seven different Ball State players have scored in double figures already this season. Dis Agustsdottir, Smith, Samz, Clephane, Puiggros, Brown and Freeman have all scored 10 or more points in a game this season while all 13 players that have seen playing time this year have scored.
The Cardinals welcomed 4,235 screaming fans Wednesday on the fourth-annual Ball State Athletics Field Trip Day, surpassing the program's second highest home attendance total which was 4,030 vs. Toledo on Feb. 2, 2002.
Scouting Butler:
• Butler has started the season with a 4-0 ledger which marks only the seventh time in program history the Bulldogs have accomplished that feat. Last year the Bulldogs started their non-conference slate with a 5-0 ledger.
• The Bulldogs are coming off of a 64-61 win over IUPUI Wednesday night in Hinkle Fieldhouse. Genesis Parker led Butler with 23 points after going 6-of-7 from 3-point range. Kristen Spolyar added 13 points and teammate Katherine Strong finished the game with 10. IUPUI out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 38-28.Â
• Butler is paced by Kristen Spoyler, who averages 21.0 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Behind Spoyler is Genesis Parkerl who is currently averaging 14.8 ppg and 1.5 rpg. Tenley Dowell is scoring 12.0 ppg and leads the squad in rebounding with 8.0 rpg per contest.
• Butler is coached by Kurt Godlevske who is in his sixth season at the helm of the Bulldogs. Godlevske was the 2018-19 Big East Coach of the Year last season after guiding Butler to a 23 win season while also reaching the final round of 16 of the WNIT. 11 of those 23 victories came in conference action, allowing Butler to play in the BIG EAST tournament as the No. 3 seed.
