MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's golf team bolstered its future roster Wednesday with the signing of Griffin Hare, one of the state of Indiana's top prospects.
Hare qualified for the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at the Inverness Club in Toledo. He also reached the round of 16 in the Indiana Boys' State Junior.
"Griffin is a decorated student-athlete from here in the state," Ball State head coach Mike Fleck said. "He is one of the highest-ranked players in the class and has competed successfully in events around the country.
"Griffin has a very strong work ethic. He knows how to win and is not afraid to shoot low numbers in competition. With that desire to be successful, we are excited about him joining our Ball State golf family."
Hare is a three-time All-Hoosier Athletic Conference selection with one year still to play at Tipton. He is a three-time regional qualifier and reached the state finals as a junior after winning his regional at The Players Club in Yorktown with a 5-under-par 67.
A veteran of American Junior Golf Association events, Hare also owns five career wins on the Golfweek Junior Tour. He has finished in the top 5 of 15 Golfweek events in the past two years and was named the tour's 2017 fall player of the year. His best round in competition was a 66 in the Golfweek event at Purdue's Ackerman-Allen Course.
Hare is a three-time Indiana Amateur qualifier and finished fifth in the 2019 Indiana Junior PGA Championship.
