Men’s Tennis Closes Out Fall Play At MAC Invite

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State men's tennis team wrapped up its fall 2019 season Sunday afternoon after competing at the annual MAC Invite at West Hills Athletic Club on the campus of Western Michigan University.
Thibault De Negri went 2-1 in flight two singles. He posted wins over Binghamton's Michael Pawlowicz in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 and then took down Toledo's Cole Shoults in a three-frame thriller, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. In that same flight, Chris Adams also defeated Shoults, 6-3, 6-2 in consolation action.
True freshman Vince Orlando advanced to the flight three singles championship match. He got to the title match by knocking off Toledo's Krzysztof Weloska, 6-3, 6-3 and host Western Michigan's Jack Randall, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4. Orlando then fell to Buffalo's Smon Wibler in the final match, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Orlando's classmate Eli Herran advanced in the consolation bracket defeating Northern Illinois' Mikko Mainen, 0-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Rounding out the singles wins for the Cardinals, were Parrish Simmons and Bryce Bonin, as both players advanced to the flight four consolation finale.
The doubles competition consisted of three flights, the only Ball State twosome that advanced in its main respective draw was the duo of Bonin and Abe Wojtalik. The BSU doubles tandem made it to the semifinal round of flight two doubles after beating Toledo, 8-6. Bonin and Wojtalik would then be eliminated by Northern Illinois by a score of 8-2.
The Ball State men's tennis team will open its spring 2020 season at Big Ten foe Indiana on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m.
