Men’s Golf Snags Share of Third in Fall Finale at Maketewah

FINAL RESULTS
CINCINNATI -- The Ball State men's golf team managed to hold onto a tie for third place Tuesday despite struggles for much of the final round at Xavier's Musketeer Classic.
Birdies from Keegan Bronnenberg on his last hole and Joey Ranieri on his final two helped the Cardinals match Morehead State for third on the final leaderboard. BSU, which led after round one, started the day three shots off the pace but could not pressure overnight leaders Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
The Badgers (+9) clipped the Huskies by four shots by day's end at Maketewah Country Club. Ball State and Morehead State finished 12 shots off the pace.
Freshman Joey Wiseman led the Cardinals in the final round with an even-par 71, but BSU's team total of 299 was its highest of the week.
Bronnenberg closed with his second consecutive 73. Buoyed by his career-best 66 in the tournament's first round, the Muncie native tied for third place overall, three shots behind medalist Cooper Collins from Morehead State. It was Bronnenberg's best career finish, one spot better than his tie for fourth last year at Maketewah.
BSU sophomore Yianni Kostouros, competing as an individual this week, shot 71 to vault into a tie for 12th for his best collegiate finish. He played the par-4's in 4 under for the week, three shots better than anyone in the field. Jack Cunningham tied for 23rd to give the Cardinals three players in the top 25.
The Musketeer Classic was the last of five events on Ball State's fall schedule and marked the team's second-best finish this year behind a victory at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
The Cardinals won't tee it up again until Feb. 10-11 when they host the annual Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in Florida.
