Cardinals Hunting Tournament Title at Musketeer Classic

BSU three shots behind leaders entering final round of fall season

CINCINNATI -- The Ball State men's golf team will enter Tuesday's final round of the Musketeer Classic three shots off the pace as it seeks to bookend its fall season with tournament championships.

The Cardinals held the lead after Monday's opening round at Maketewah Country Club and dropped just two spots in the afternoon despite a score 18 strokes higher.

Ball State fired a 278 (-6) in the morning for its lowest round of the season. Keegan Bronnenberg (66), Joey Ranieri (69) and Jack Cunningham (70) were all under par. Bronnenberg's 66 was the best of his career, the best of any player in the field and the best by a BSU golfer since CJ Jones' 65 in last year's Musketeer Classic.

An inconsistent afternoon dropped the Cardinals three strokes behind tournament co-leaders Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. West Virginia's Philipp Maltari holds the individual lead at 5 under par. Bronnenberg is two shots back in a tie for third, Cunningham is five back in a tie for 10th, and Ranieri is seven back in a tie for 17th.

The best afternoon round by a Ball State golfer came from Tyler Green. The redshirt junior, competing as an individual this week, made six birdies en route to a 3-under 68.

The third and final round is set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday. Ball State is paired with the leaders as it chases its second tournament victory of the fall.
