MUNCIE, Ind. - - For its final tune-up before the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships, the Ball State cross country program hosts the Cardinal Classic Friday afternoon at the Muncie Elks Country Club.

The meet will feature a women's 6K race starting at 4:45 p.m., followed by a men's 8K race at 5:15 p.m. The meet will also kick off Alumni Weekend festivities for the Ball State Cross Country and Track & Field Programs.

Below is a breakdown of what to expect Friday by the numbers:
5 - - Five teams are expected to compete in Friday's 6K women's race … Joining the Cardinals will be MAC rival Miami, as well as Anderson, Northern Kentucky and Transylvania … In the men's 8K race, six teams will take to the course including Anderson, Butler, Miami, the Miami Striders, Northern Kentucky and Transylvania.
7 - - Friday's race will mark the seventh event hosted by the Cardinals at the Muncie Elks Country Club since the 2009 season … However, it will be just the third 6K race to be run at the Elks, with the other two coming in 2011; the Ball State Invitational (Oct. 14) and the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships (Oct. 29).

20:35.5 - - While the course has been slightly reconfigured this season from the 2011 version, the women's 6K Elks record is 20:35.5 set by Ohio's Juli Accurso at the 2011 MAC Championships … The fastest 6K for a Ball State runner at the Elks is 22:16.3 by MaryKate Mellen also at the 2011 MAC Championships.

15 - - The Cardinals enter Friday's meet ranked 15th in the Great Lakes Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll released Oct. 7 … Ball State entered the rankings at No. 14 on Sept. 16, and was also ranked 14th in both the Sept. 23 and Sept. 30 polls … Miami enters the meet ranked ninth in the Great Lakes Region in both the men's and women's polls, however a majority of the RedHawks top runners will be competing Saturday at the 2019 Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
11 - - The Cardinals have 11 runners entered in Friday's Cardinal Classic; Maddie Aul, Karleigh Conner, Hannah Cummings, Emma Cunningham, Grace Dean, Cayla Eckenroth, Meghan Hedrick, Peyton Kneadler, Maritza Rodriguez, Juliana Stogsdill and Vivian Van Eck.

22:09.7 - - Maritza Rodriguez turned in a career-fast 6K time of 22:09.7 to place 17th out of 291 runners and lead the Cardinals to a third-place team finish at the Spartan Invitational (Sept. 13) … It was Ball State's fastest 6K time since a then-senior MaryKate Mellen ran a 22:09.0 to place 93rd at the 2012 NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Championship course.
