- Ball State opens Mid-American Conference action on the road against MAC West Division rival Toledo Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m.Â
- The Rockets and the Cardinals will square off for the first of two meetings this year and 80th time overall. Â
- The last time Ball State opened MAC action at Toledo was on Dec. 31, 2016, resulting in a 51-45 victory for the Cardinals. That season the Cardinals also ended league play against the Rockets. Â
- Ball State's last meeting over Toledo was on Feb. 24 in Muncie, the Cardinals won that game, 78-73. Â
- In six seasons, Ball State head Coach Brady Sallee owns a 4-2 record in MAC openers.
- Ball State and Toledo first meeting ever was in 1980-81 that year the Cardinals defeated the Rockets by a score of 63-47.
- Ball State and Toledo have opened MAC play against each other a total of six times with both schools' winning three apiece.Â
-The Ball State men's and women's basketball teams will open Mid-American Conference action against the same league school for the 21s time in program history. In the 80's and 90's the two teams would play the same MAC opponent on the same day but this time the men play at Toledo on Friday and the women face the Rockets on Saturday. This is the fourth time both teams have opened league play against Toledo together. The last time was in 2015-16.
SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
- The Rockets are 22-15 all-time in Mid-American Conference openers, including an 11-5 ledger when beginning league play at home.
- Toledo much like Ball State, enters today's contest with a 3-game win streak. The Rockets have recently knocked off Stony Brook (80-48), Detroit Mercy (77-60) and Tiffin (75-41). Both the Cardinals and the Rockets have faced one similar non-conference opponent this season, as both programs played Cleveland State. Ball State and Toledo each defeated the Vikings by a five-point margin. Â
- The Rockets have two players scoring in double figures, Kaayla McIntyre (15.2 ppg) and Mariella Santucci (10.6 ppg). McIntyre also leads the Rockets defensively, averaging 6.6 rebounds per contest.
- For the 11th season, the Rockets are led by head coach Tricia Cullop who is a 1993 graduate of Purdue University. Cullop came to Toledo after spending eights years as the head coach of Evansville. Cullop owns an overall coaching record of 351-103 (.773).

- The Cardinals will return to Worthen Arena Wednesday for an 11 a.m. matchup against Bowling Green. The game against the Falcons marks the third annual Field Trip Day. Head coach Brady Sallee hosts the event to provide an opportunity for local elementary schools to enjoy Ball State women's basketball game-day experience. The Field Trip game includes free tickets for all students and teachers who enroll, an educational component and exciting halftime performance. Ball State and Bowling Green have met a total 66 times in program history with the Falcons leading the all-time series record, 44-22. Ball State has won the last eight meetings between the two programs winning its last meeting 82-41 on Jan. 24, 2018 in Worthen Arena.
