Sandra Elsadek, in her second career collegiate meet, competed in all four events. Kaitlyn Menzione, with an all-around score of 37.825, did as well and led Ball State in the floor routine (9.825). Rachel Benoit registered a beam routine scoring a team-best 9.825 and Marissa Nychyk was the team's best on the bars (9.700).
"I was super excited for Rachel's beam routine," Saleem said. "The last four on the team did a nice job and we started fairly strong on the floor. Honestly, we had three strong events. It was a lot to build on and our goal is to keep building each week."
Maddie Macdonald was BSU's best on the vault (9.725) and Saleem said the Cards were solid in that event.
Oklahoma, the No. 1 team in the nation, finished the tri meet with 197.000, placing 1-5 in three events. Host UNC, which Ball State has seen two weeks in a row, totaled 195.150 to BSU's 193.600.
Ball State has a short turnaround before competing again this week. Only two practice days and then it's off to Eastern Michigan for a dual meet Thursday, Jan. 24. Fans can follow on social media at @BallStateGym as well as the program's Facebook page.Â
