Former First Rounder Hagerty On Comeback Trail
January 17, 2019 | Baseball
After more than a decade after his last professional pitch, former Ball State first round draft pick Luke Hagerty is on the comeback trail. The 32nd overall pick of the 2002, Hagerty made a splash in the baseball world after a recent tryout in front of scouts from multiple countries and many MLB organizations.
Hagerty, a lefty who turns 38 in April, pitched at Ball State from 2000-02. Remarkably, he recently topped out at 98 during the workout at Driveline Baseball in Washington.
HAGERTY'S BALL STATE AND PRO STATS
The 6-7 lefty enjoyed a standout season at BSU in 2002, throwing seven complete games and striking out 92 with a 1.19 WHIP. During his three seasons under Rich Maloney, Hagerty and the Cards won 103 games with a 56-22 conference record.

After being selected in the first round by the Chicago Cubs, Hagerty made 10 starts in Class A Boise and put up a sparkling 1.13 ERA, striking out 50 over 48 innings. After Tommy John surgery and missing the 2003 season, he bounced around for five more seasons and his last pro season came in 2008. In recent years, he's been running an athletic performance center in Arizona called X2 Athletics.Since everyone wants to know, @X2Athletics was T97.6 on Stalker, T98.5 on Trackman in his bullpen.
