
Field Hockey Falls To Big Ten Foe Ohio State, 6-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team took on Big Ten foe Ohio State Friday evening and fell to the Buckeyes by a score of 6-0. Â With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 0-5 on the season while Ohio State improves to 3-2 on the year.
Ohio State kept the defensive pressure throughout the entire 70 minutes of play only allowing one offensive shot from the Cardinals. Â Ball State's offense was led by redshirt junior Michelle Shampton who had the lone play at the net today. Â Shampton now leads the squad with eight shots this season and one assist.
The Buckeyes not only dominated on the defensive side of the ball but also on the offensive side, scoring six goals off of 23 shots. Â In the cage for Ball State, sophomore Grace Chavez recorded 10 saves.
Ball State will play a second game tomorrow in Columbus, Ohio against Lehigh at noon.  Ball State defeated the Mountain Hawks last season in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in a 2-1 overtime victory.   Michelle Shampton tallied three shots and three shots on goal that game, while Darbi Gullett marked two at the net. In the cage, Chavez recorded six saves.
After this weekend, Ball State will return to the Briner Sports Complex Sept. 15 when it hosts Miami University in its Mid-American Conference opener at noon. Â
