Women’s Tennis Closes Day One Action At Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team opened play at the Purdue Invite Friday which was an all day event that consisted of seven singles matches and six doubles competitions for the Cardinals.
In singles action, Peyton Gollhofer and Rebecca Herrington each defeated their respective opponents in straight sets while teammate Sarah Swiderski took her opponent down in a three set thriller. Isabelle Dohanics beat Jillian Milan of Wright State, 7-5 6-4 in the Hammer Down flight and Audrey Berger took down Fernanda Naves of Northern Illinois 6-4, 6-3 in the Boilermaker draw. All five Cardinals will advance in their assigned flights in the semifinal rounds Saturday. Lilya Hadab also won after having a first round bye, she then registered a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lipscomb's Thabile Tshated.
The doubles tandem of Berger and Herrington found success in their first match against Xavier's Ahmeir Kyle and Kaitlin Ruether by a score of 8-2 and then lost in the quarterfinals. Swiderski and Gollhofer also advanced past the first round but was unable to move on in the winners bracket.
