Soccer Suffers Sunday Setback to Bowling Green
September 23, 2018 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – Bowling Green's Chelsee Washington recorded a brace before Erica Hubert added a late insurance goal, and the Ball State University soccer team couldn't find the back of the net as it fell, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals dropped to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in MAC play while Bowling Green improved to 4-3-2 for the year and 2-0-0 in conference.
BSU surrendered 16 shots and seven on goal while only getting off eight, four of which were on goal. Both goalkeepers recorded four saves and the Falcons earned seven corners to Ball State's five.
Bowling Green took command of the match early on when Washington took a pass at the top of the box and beat Tristin Stuteville to the bottom-left corner of the goal in the fourth minute. Washington struck again in the 35th minute with a header to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals had scattered chances throughout the match but could not convert, and Hubert sealed the win for BGSU with a goal in the 86th minute.
Seniors Lauren Roll and Allison Abbe led the way for Ball State with two shots apiece on the day. Amanda Shaw and Julia Elvbo also put shots on goal for the Cardinals.
BSU now prepares to hit the road again as it will travel to Kent State on Friday (Sept. 28) to continue conference play.
