Lightning Causes Cancelled Match Against Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, SC. – The Ball State University soccer team made it to the 38th minute and was leading 2-0 over Charleston Southern before lightning struck and caused the cancellation of the match on Sunday afternoon at CSU Soccer Field.
According to NCAA rules, a match must make it to the 70-minute mark before it can be counted as official. Due to travel restrictions and weather conditions, the two sides could not make it to the 70th minute. Statistics and results for the match will not count.
Before the delay, Ball State had seized a commanding 2-0 lead. Julia Elvbo sent a free kick into the box in the 18th minute and Lauren Roll knocked it in. Moments later, Emily Scott fired a shot that hit the post and deflected into the bottom corner of the goal.
The Cardinals will take the pitch next a week from now when they travel to take on Western Illinois on Sunday (Sept. 9).
