Former Cardinal Blake Beemer Returns to Ball State as Baseball Assistant Coach
September 11, 2018 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. –Ball State University head coach Rich Maloney has announced the hiring of former Cardinal baseball player Blake Beemer as an assistant coach.
Beemer joins the BSU staff after three seasons as an assistant at Eastern Illinois University.
"We're excited to have Blake Beemer join our staff," said Maloney. "Blake was a three-time captain at Ball State. Blake was my captain [in 2013] and did an outstanding job with our team that had a 17-game turnaround from the previous year. He's a very driven man with a tremendous work ethic who excelled both on the field and in the classroom at Ball State."
At EIU, Beemer helped coach a very productive offense. The Panthers ranked fourth in the NCAA in home runs in 2017 with 83 and finished in the top 50 in scoring offense. Eastern Illinois also finished in the top 35 nationally in doubles at the conclusion on the 2016 season.
Beemer's players collected All-Ohio Valley Conference first, second and newcomer honors in addition to an all-region selection. He also saw Joe Duncan and Dougie Parks sign professional contracts.
Prior to coaching at Eastern Illinois, Beemer served as a volunteer assistant coach at Penn State University. Beemer worked with the outfielders during his time in State College.
A four-year player for Ball State, Beemer compiled 108 runs and 94 RBIs on a .286 batting average. He also compiled a .996 fielding percentage. Beemer was named one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and served two years on the SAAC Executive Committee. The Dayton, Ohio, native graduated from Ball State in 2012.
