Eleven Cardinals Tabbed MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes for Spring
July 09, 2018 | Baseball, General, Men's Golf, Men's Tennis, Softball, Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Eleven Ball State student-athletes from the 2018 spring sports season were selected as Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athletes for their excellence in competition and in the classroom.
Â
The recipients were chosen by the league's faculty athletics representatives as the "best of the best" from each sport's previously announced Academic All-MAC teams.
Â
Gabby Sims (outdoor track and field) earned the honor for the third straight year. She is also a three-time recipient of the award for indoor track. Her teammates Regan Lewis and Peyton Stewart were honored for the second year in a row, as were men's tennis player Conner Andersen and baseball player T.J. Baker.
Â
The spring recipients join 15 Cardinals who were named Distinguished Scholar Athletes for the fall or winter seasons, bringing BSU's total for the year to 26.
Â
Students with a GPA of at least 3.20 who participate in at least 50 percent of their teams' contests are eligible for the award. The number of selections for each sport is equivalent to the size of the all-conference first team in that sport or 20 percent of the nominees, whichever is greater. First-year students and junior college and graduate school transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible.
