Cardinals place one sophomore, two freshmen on list
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Three Ball State golfers were named All-American Scholars for the 2017-18 academic year by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.
Sophomore Manon Tounalom of France earned the recognition, along with freshmen Liz Kim of Dublin, Ohio, and Emily Knouff of Fort Loramie, Ohio.
To be honored as All-American Scholars, golfers must maintain an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher and compete in at least 50 percent of their teams' competitive rounds. They must also be of high moral character and in good standing at their universities.
Tounalom, who owns a 3.549 GPA in business administration, was Ball State's top finisher in nine of the team's 11 stroke play events. She led the Cardinals with a 76.65 scoring average and had six top-25 finishes.
Kim, a pre-telecommunications major, finished her rookie year with a 3.938 GPA. Named Ball State's Freshman of the Year, she competed every round for the Cardinals and managed a 79.06 stroke average.
Knouff is a pre-nursing major who completed her freshman year with a 3.799 GPA. She was named Ball State's Most Improved Player after coming on strong to finish second on the team with a 79.00 stroke average after playing every spring event.
The trio of All-American Scholars will form the nucleus of the Ball State roster next season. The Cardinals open their fall campaign Sept. 9-10 at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational.
