Seven Softball Players Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Ball State softball team placed seven student-athletes on the 2018 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as announced Monday (June 4) by the league office.
To qualify for Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their particular sport (with an exception being made for starting pitchers). First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residency are not eligible.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was senior pitcher Carolyn Wilmes who claimed the award for the third time in her career. In addition, junior pitcher Aeshia Miles received the honor for the second straight season.
The Cardinals also had five first-time honorees in sophomore outfielder Haley Dominique, junior catcher Olivia Huffman, senior infielder Danae King, senior second baseman Maddy Labrador and junior catcher/outfielder Madison Lee.
Ball State's seven honorees are now eligible for the MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete award which is voted on by the faculty athletic representatives from each MAC institution. The award is presented to student-athletes from the Academic All-MAC Team who have excelled in athletics and academics.
