Colin Brockhouse Named MAC Baseball Player of the Week
May 21, 2018 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball senior Colin Brockhouse wrapped up the regular season by hitting .500 over the final four games and was rewarded by being named the Mid-American Conference Baseball Player of the Week Monday afternoon.
Brockhouse, hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, is the fourth Cardinal to earn MAC Player of the Week accolades this spring. The outfielder hit safely in all four home games last week and finished with multiple hits in three of the four contests. He led the team in hits (8), extra base hits (3), home runs (1), RBIs (3) and total bases during the week. Brockhouse hit his team-leading 10th home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of Saturday's game against Western Michigan to tie the score at 3-all. He also had a sacrifice fly ball one inning later to tie the game again at 4-all. Ball State went on to win the regular season finale, 6-4.
In 18 home games this season, Brockhouse was a stellar .427 (32-of-75) at the plate.
Toledo right-handed pitcher Sam Shutes came away with MAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Ball State (31-24, 17-10 MAC) concluded the regular season by winning 12 of its final 14 league games. The Cardinals finished tied for second in the MAC standings and will be the No. 3 seed in this week's MAC Tournament in Avon, Ohio. Ball State opens play in the tournament against Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, May 23, at 12:30 p.m. That game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
