Byrdsong Qualifies for 200m Finals to Open MAC Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y.- - Sophomore sprinter Bryeana Byrdsong secured her spot in Saturday's 200m finals to lead the Ball State track & field team on the opening day of the 2018 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships.

Byrdsong cruised to a second-place showing in the second preliminary heat of the 200m at Buffalo's Stadium Track to automatically advance to the finals. Overall, her time of 24.02 was the fifth-fastest of the day.

In finals action, freshman javelin thrower Abby Denham shined in her MAC Outdoor Championship debut, winning her flight and placing 10th overall with a career-best throw of 39.68m in her first attempt.

Denham's mark is the fifth-best individual effort in program history and just 3.10m shy of the program record of 42.78m set by Kim Woodhouse in 1982.

The Cardinals continue competition in the 2018 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday, with action in six more events. The first, the shot put at 12:30 p.m.
