Jeff Riedel Earns MAC Baseball Player of the Week Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. – Senior outfielder Jeff Riedel was named the Mid-American Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the second time this season following his solid play against Indiana State and Northern Illinois.
Riedel, a native of Cookeville, Tennessee, became the 10th Cardinal to notch two triples in a game in Ball State's 11-0 win over NIU on April 28. He also had an RBI triple in Ball State's loss to Indiana State on April 25. Riedel recorded a pair of outfield assists in Ball State's 5-4 win over NIU on April 29. His second assist came in the top of the ninth inning when he threw out the go-ahead run at home plate.
The right fielder led the team in batting average (.500), runs (5), hits (9), total bases (15), slugging percentage (.833) and on-base percentage (.550) in four games last week. Riedel has hit safely in 11 consecutive games while tallying multiple hits in eight of those contests. In that stretch, he has improved his season batting average from .308 to .361.
Riedel shared MAC Player of the Week honors with Western Michigan infielder Andrew Stone. Miami right-handed pitcher Gus Graham took home MAC Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Ball State (22-20) wraps up its five game home stand Wednesday afternoon, May 2, against Big Ten foe Ohio State. This will be Ohio State's first visit to Muncie since 1970. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
