April 27, 2018 | Men's Tennis
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Ball State men's tennis team was the number four seed in today's 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament which was held at the Miller Tennis Center by the University of Buffalo. The Cardinals (14-11) ended their season after suffering a 4-0 loss to MAC Regular season champions and the No. 1 seed Western Michigan (21-4).
Ball State started the competition strong in doubles play and led the Broncos 4-3 on court two and they were knotted 4-4 at No. 1 doubles. But the Cardinals couldn't hold on, as the Broncos Billy Heckman and Mike Steiner took a 6-2 win over Chris Adams and Tom Carney at the number three spot before the Broncos clinched the point on the top court after Nemanja Guzina and Collin Rigney fell 6-4 to Jannik Opitz and Kennosuke Nouchi.
In singles action, the Broncos took five of the six first sets from the Cardinals. Thibault De Negri took the first frame from Western Michigan's Nouch 7-5 and led in the second set 3-0, prior to the match being won by the Broncos. Western Michigan took straight set wins over Marko Guzina, Nemanja Guzina and Conner Andersen on courts one, two and four in that order allowing the Broncos to advance to the championship match Saturday.
