Emily Scott strikes first, Nicky Potts nets game-winner
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team finished off its spring schedule Saturday with a 2-1 victory over NAIA semifinalist Northwestern Ohio at the Briner Sports Complex.
Â
All of the scoring came in the second half, including BSU goals from Emily Scott and Nicky Potts.
Â
"We had much improved balance in the way we attacked today," Ball State coach Craig Roberts said. "Our passing was more clinical throughout, and Lauren Lerew was instrumental in that. Amanda Shaw and Greer Glover did a good job holding up the front."
Â
Scott registered the first goal of the day, striking from 20 yards out after a strong one-on-one move. Northwestern Ohio then answered on a free kick that was redirected into the net.
Â
Potts later put the Cardinals back on top with what proved to be the game-winner. She broke through and beat the keeper inside the box for a 2-1 advantage.
Â
Sunday marked Ball State's final contest of the spring. The Cardinals will return to action with their traditional season in August as the three-time defending MAC West Division champion.
Â
"I thought we had good energy today, and it was a good way to finish the spring season," Roberts said. "We have taken positive steps in the areas we are working on, and the future looks bright as we continue to develop."Â
