Opening Pitch: The Cardinals wind down their Spring Break trip this weekend with a three-game series against Western Carolina. C/OF Griffin Hulecki and OF Jeff Riedel have been the top hitters on the trip thus far. Hulecki is hitting .375 (6-of-16) while Riedel stands at .350 (7-of-20). The duo have combined for six RBIs and five runs scored.
Meanwhile OF Colin Brockhouse has two home runs and seven RBIs in the five games. He currently leads the Mid-American Conference in RBIs (13) and ranks second in home runs (4).
Series History: The two teams met for the first time last year in a three-game series at Ball State. Western Carolina took two of three games in mid-May.
The Cardinals won the finale of that series, 13-6. INF Seth Freed had a bases-clearing double as part of a six-run first inning.

• The first game of the series will mark game No. 700 for Rich Maloney as head coach of the Cardinals. In two stints with Ball State, Maloney is 426-272-1 (.610).
• Ball State is 3-1 in games where a Cardinal hits a home run. OF Colin Brockhouse hit a home run in Ball State's most recent game, but the Cardinals lost to Gardner-Webb, 8-6.
• Ball State pitching ranks eighth nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (11.0). Florida State (13.5) leads the nation in that category.
• The Cardinals lead the MAC in fielding percentage (.979). Ball Sate had a .974 fielding percentage last spring.
• OF Colin Brockhouse has reached base safely in 10 straight games.
• OF Jeff Riedel set a personal high with four hits against Gardner-Webb on March 7. He was 4-for-4 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored in the second game of the doubleheader.
