March 18, 2018 | Men's Tennis
DEKALB, Ill. - The Ball State men's tennis team (11-5, 1-1 MAC) suffered a 5-2 loss in Mid-American Conference action Sunday afternoon against Northern Illinois (12-5, 2-0 MAC) at the Boylan Tennis Center.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start after capturing the doubles point from the Huskies. First off the court would be the No. 1 doubles twosome of Nemanja Guzina and Collin Rigney. The duo defeated the Huskies Bor Schweiger Muzar and Georg Lundkvist, 6-4. Northern Illinois then evened doubles action after Eric Marbach and Kristopher Ortega took a 6-3 decision at the No. 2 slot from Marko Guzina and Conner Andersen. The point would come down to Tom Carney alongside doubles partner Chris Adams. The No. 3 duo took down Louis-Philippe Hamel and Tom Hjertonsson, 6-3.
Unfortunately, the Huskies dominated singles play for the victory. Northern Illinois took five of the six singles competitions from the Cardinals. Bryce Bonin scored the second point for Ball State after earning the victory at number six singles.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action Saturday when it hosts Toledo for a 2 p.m. first serve at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting. If inclement weather does occur, the Cardinals will play at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
