Senior claims another award after Pinehurst victory
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Michael VanDeventer of the Ball State men's golf team was named co-Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week.

VanDeventer, who was also named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, won the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in wire-to-hire fashion.

The senior from Columbus, Indiana, fired a 54-hole total of 215 (+2) with rounds of 71, 72 and 72 on the No. 8 course at Pinehurst Resort. He held a one-shot lead after each of the first two rounds and went on to finish two strokes clear of the field for his second collegiate tournament victory.

On a course where the average score for the week for higher than 77, VanDeventer never had a round worse than 72. He led Ball State to a runner-up finish as a team, as the Cardinals finished just one shot behind tournament champion Radford. It matched BSU's best team result of the season.   Â

VanDeventer shared this week's honor with Miami's Brian Ohr, who won the Colleton River Collegiate.

It is the second time in the past month a Ball State men's golfer has won both the Golfer of the Week and Scholar Athlete of the Week awards. Timothy Wiseman claimed both after his performance at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play.
