Michael VanDeventer Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

2017 All-America Scholar won the Pinehurst Intercollegiate
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State men's golfer Michael VanDeventer was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week after his performance in winning the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.

A senior from Columbus, Indiana, VanDeventer owns a 3.5 GPA as an exercise science major. The two-time Academic All-MAC selection was a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar as a junior in 2017.

VanDeventer led wire-to-wire over the weekend. He fired a 54-hole total of 215 (+2) with rounds of 71, 72 and 72 on the No. 8 course at Pinehurst Resort.

He held a one-shot lead after each of the first two rounds and went on to finish two strokes clear of the field for his second collegiate tournament victory. On a course where the average score for the week for higher than 77, VanDeventer never had a round worse than 72.

He led Ball State to a runner-up finish as a team, as the Cardinals finished just one shot behind tournament champion Radford. It matched BSU's best team result of the season.

VanDeventer is the second Ball State men's golfer in the past month to be named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week. Junior Timothy Wiseman earned the honor after his performance at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in February.
