Jeff Riedel Named MAC Baseball Player of the Week
March 14, 2018 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – For the third time in the first four weeks of the collegiate baseball season, the Mid-American Conference honored a Ball State player for their outstanding play on the diamond. Senior outfielder Jeff Riedel was named MAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career following a record-breaking game this past weekend at Western Carolina.
Riedel helped the Cardinals go 4-1 this past week and average 9.6 runs per game. The native of Cookeville, Tennessee, tied an NCAA Division I single game record with five doubles at Western Carolina on March 9. He is the seventh Division I player to register five doubles and the first since Western Carolina's Aaron Attaway in 2012. Riedel went 5-for-6 with five doubles, six RBIs and three runs scored in the 20-8 victory. Earlier in the week he went 4-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored in an 8-6 loss at Gardner-Webb.
Collegiate Baseball also tabbed Riedel as one of its nine National Players of the Week, joining players from Auburn, Oregon, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Kansas State, Hofstra and UNC Greensboro.
Riedel currently leads the Cardinals (8-7) in batting average (.400), slugging percentage (.600) and doubles (7). He has reached base safely in 26 of his last 27 appearances dating back to last spring.
Ball State is in action today at Butler with first pitch set for 4 p.m. The Cardinals' home opener is slated for Friday against Dayton.
